Horror is one such genre where filmmakers bank upon hugely to get success. ‘Mumbai 125 KM’ is the latest horror film starring Karanvir Bohra, Veena Malik, Vedita Pratap Singh, Joey Debroy and Vije Bhatia. Directed by Hemant Madhukar, this film has hit the theaters today. Let’s now see how this film is.

Story:-                                                                                       

A bunch of five friends start their journey to Mumbai to celebrate their new year’s eve. During their journey, they face many untoward incidents which scare them to the core. A scary ghost (Veena Malik) goes on a killing spree, and starts killing each of the youngsters.

Who is this ghost ? Why is she killing these friends? Will any of them escape from the evil clutches of the ghost? That forms the rest of the story.

Positive Points:-

All the young actors have done a decent job with their performance. But definitely they need to work on their emotions, as they end up overacting in few scenes. Veena Malik provides the much needed glamour to this horror flick. Her skin show will definitely raise the temperatures.Most of the scenes in the first half keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, as they are very well designed. The entire first half of the film is decent with a gripping screenplay.

Negative Points:-

As in any other horror flick, this film too has routine scenes and predictable story. The director might have been inspired by many horror films and this is the reason we can find similar scenes that have come in mostly RGV films. You can also find the glimpses of the film ‘Final Destination’ when each one from the group starts getting killed.

There is a overdose of love making which does not go well with the family audience. Veena Malik’s performance as a ghost is good, but her makeup, dressing and the way she was flown up in the air looks nonsense. After a gripping first half, director has lost out on the screenplay and ended up making it below average climax.

Technical Aspects:-

Cinematography is just about decent as there is nothing much to showcase. The filmmakers promoted that the entire movie was shot with stereoscopic 3D cameras, but there is not much difference in the final product. Songs in the film are just about average and so is the background score. Though the editor has done a decent job, he should have taken more care on the second half.

Coming to director Hemanth Madhukar, he, wrote the complete first half with all the necessary ingredients required for a horror flick but lost his grip in the second half.

Outcome:-

On the whole, ‘Mumbai 125 KM’ is just a routine and ordinary film. Except for a few horror scenes in the first half, and Veena Malik’s skin show, there is nothing much to watch out for. Those have a niche for horror films can give it a shot, but the rest can avoid it safely.

                                  Director Vishal Bhardwaj who had scored a hit with shahid and won Filmfare Best Director Award is back with another hard hitting film in the form of ‘Haider’ which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’. Casting Tabu, Shahid Kapur, Shradha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon, this film has hit the screens today. Culbspride here brings you the review of Haider 

Story:

The story of Haider is set in the turbulent Kashmir of the nineties where Dr. Hilal Meer and his wife Ghazala (Tabu) live. One fine day, Hilal brings home an injured militant for treatment which lands him in trouble and then he suddenly disappears leaving Ghazala all alone.

Ghazala then starts living with Hilal’s brother Khurram (Kay Kay) who is in love with his Bhabhijaan. Ghazala’s son Haider (Shahid) arrives home only to find that his mother and Chacha are getting married. Haider now decides to take revenge and also find out where his father is. Will Haider be successful in getting his revenge is what forms the rest of the story.

Positive Points:-

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has already proven his worth with films like Omkara, Maqbool and Kaminey and this film matches up to those classics and adds another feature in his cap. The movie has the perfect concoction of ravishing emotions. Coming to performances, it is only Vishal who can bring the best out of Shahid Kapoor as Shahid is brilliant in every scene and portrays the role of a man on a mission with perfection.

Interestingly, the one person who takes this poetry in motion to another level is the hugely talented Tabu. Calling this her best performance till date wouldn’t be wrong! Kay Kay Menon also plays his part extremely well and shines in every scene. Irrfan may have done a cameo, but every time he enters the screens, he takes the scene to another level.

Negative Points :-

Despite being a part of such a perfect cast, the only flaw is Shraddha Kapoor who seems to be lost in the plot and her performance becomes monotonous. Another negative in the movie is the run-time. Also as this film belongs to a niche genre and not many people will be able to connect with it.

Technical Aspects:

‘Haider’ is a brilliant adaptation of Shakespeare’s novel ‘Hamlet’. For the ones, who have not read the book yet, they will not feel lost in the film. Vishal has very neatly added his own art in the film in the form of Kashmir. Leaving aside the city’s scenic beauty, Vishal rather focuses on the dilemma that the people are going through.

All songs in the film are awesome and fit well in the plot especially ‘Bismil’ which is a brilliant composition. The dialogues are written by Vishal are amazing especially the way in which Haider expresses the problems of Kashmir by saying ‘Hum Hain Ya Hum Nahi’ and ‘To Free Or Not To Free.’

Outcome:

Overall, Haider is one work of art with creativity at its best! Vishal extracts stunning performances from Shahid Kapur and Tabu who take this film to another level. All those who like hard hitting films with an edge, Shouldn't miss Haider - he's got audacity like none other.....

Story:-

Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), the most wanted criminal for the Interpol, is jailed in London and then one fine day, Omar manages to escapes from the high security jail. In order to teach everybody a lesson, he assigns Rajvir (Hrithik) to rob the world famous Kohinoor diamond which is kept in London.

Rajvir successfully steals the diamond and when Omar sends his people to collect the diamond from him, Rajvir escapes from them with the help of Harleen (Katrina Kaif). Who is Harleen? Why does Rajvir refuse to give the diamond back to Omar? What is his connection with Omar? For answers to all these questions, you need to watch ‘Bang Bang’ on the big screen.

Positive Points:-

This is a start to finish Hrithik Roshan film and his fans will get to see their matinee idol in his true spirit. Right from his dances, fights and bulked up body, Hrithik shows it all. Katrina Kaif ably supports Hrithik in his act and their chemistry certainly sizzles.

All the so called action sequences that are coposed by the hollywood technician look stunning. Production values are quite good and take the film to another level. The climax of the film is quite interesting and the car chase sequences specially that have been designed is in Hollywood style.

Negative Points:-

As we all know, that this film is an official remake of the Hollywood film ‘Kinght And Day’. Sadly, this flick is nowhere close to the original. There is absolute no logic or flow to the narration and this film has a water-thin storyline which is only covered up with thrills and stunts.

For the entire first half, it is only Hrithik’s heroics and his so called show off that takes the center stage. The way Katrina’s character travels with Hrithik is sometimes unjustifiable. The first half is filled with songs which are unnecessary. A simple line and an even simpler mission is just stretched for three long hours and this tests the patience of the audience.

Technical Aspects:-

Technically Bang Bang is quite good. All the locations are stunning and quite new for Bollywood flicks. The camerawork is awesome and showcases the locales in a superb manner. The production values are quite rich as the makers have not compromised on giving this flick a magnificent look.

Vishal-Shekhar’s music score is below par which is the major drawback of the film since none of the songs fail to register. Coming to the director, Siddharth Anand who has made films like Salaam Namaste and Anjaana Anjaani in the past has given the flick just a stylish and grand look. Except for the stunts, he has lost out on every other department.

Outcome:-

Hrithik is the film’s eye candy and the prime shooter, all rolled into one, and gives you some amount of bang. Excepts for the high octane action scenes shown in the trailers, there is nothing interesting in this flick. However, keeping Hrithik and Katrina’s huge fan following in mind and a 5 day long weekend, this film might rake in good figures at the box office!
